May 31, 2007 - UniverCity Connections Celebrates Success
The results of 10 months of volunteer work will be announced
at a May 31 celebration event for participants and guests of
UniverCity Connections, a unique public-private initiative designed
to improve our community and strengthen the connections between
Colorado State University, Downtown Fort Collins and the Poudre
River.
The event at the Hilton Fort Collins is hosted by The Community
Foundation of Northern Colorado, which is the convener for UniverCity
Connections. Key participants are the City of Fort Collins,
Colorado State University, and the Downtown Development Authority;
they are joined by community leaders from the private, public
and nonprofit sectors.
Nearly 200 community "stakeholders" attended the UniverCity
Connections kick-off event in November. Stakeholders continued
to meet at least monthly, and then divided into eight task groups:
Arts and Culture; CSU/City Joint Projects; Economic Development;
Mixed Use Development; River - Protection, Development and Enhancement;
Housing; Sustainable Energy Technology; and Transit and Mobility.
"Based on the incredible volunteer energy expended by so
many people, it appears UniverCity Connections has touched a
nerve," said Dave Edwards, chairman of the Community Foundation
of Northern Colorado's Board of Trustees. "The Community
Foundation is pleased to have been the convener."
"Imagine the energy and creativity that comes from combining
the efforts of those on the campus and in the downtown to create
a new legacy for Fort Collins," said Peggy Reeves, one
of four Coordinating Committee co-chairs. "That's what
UniverCity Connections has been about. I'm particularly excited
about linking the downtown to the Poudre River in a way that's
respectful of the river's natural environment."
UniverCity Connections provides an opportunity to leverage Fort
Collins' extraordinary creativity and blend ideas for facilities,
events and activities. Leaders hope to build upon other work
already underway such as the Beet Street Project, Lincoln Center
remodel, the soon-to-be constructed facility for the private-public
partnership of Discovery Science Center/Fort Collins Museum,
the Mason Transportation Corridor, a kayak park, and many more.
Nov 9, 2006 - Kick-Off Event is a Success
Thanks to all who attended
the November 9, 2006 Kick-Off Event for UniverCity Connections.
The outstanding turnout of nearly 190 people at the Hilton Fort
Collins was a powerful indication of our communitys support
for this important initiative. The cornerstone of this collaborative
community-building process is a broad cross-section of people,
who make this community unique, coming together to identify
and focus on common goals.
Those who have not yet indicated their commitment to participate
in the eight UniverCity Connections meetings scheduled for November
2006 through May 2007 should visit our Events
